Fall 2018 (one year before our 62nd reunion!)

Ahoy, Fellow Pirates!

The planning has begun for our 62nd reunion at the VFW in Yakima  — 118 S 5th Ave ,  Yakima, Washington 98902,  (509) 457-5400 — on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. (The Post is very close to our alma mater.)

I intend to send out more information via Pirate Press and Facebook as the months go by and then a mailing in the late summer of 2019. I need your help with this as I have neither email nor mailing addresses for everyone in our class. Please spread the word and let me know — even now — if you probably will attend (and how many with you?). My email is editor@azbw.com (mailing address: 7620 E. McKellips Road, Ste. 490, Scottsdale, AZ 85257.)

This will be a casual, informal gathering with no “program” to speak of – just a chance to visit and share our stories and remember those who have sailed on to other seas.

Depending on how much is left in the budget after room rental and mailing(s), we may be able to provide a drink for every class member + appetizer trays. (See sample below.)

The following are the prices I requested:

Coffee, Tea, Well Soda  $2.00

Well Drinks  $4.25

Domestic Drafts  $3.50

Domestic Bottles  $3.75

Domestic Cans  $3.00

IPA Drafts  $5.50

Import Bottles  $4.50

Wine  $4.25  glass

Food:  Cheese, Crackers, Fruit, Vegies, Chips & Dip, Cookies, etc.  $12.00 per person (includes plates, napkins, utensils, etc.)

I want to TRY to arrange this reunion so that there will be no charge for you to attend (PERHAPS with the exception of $12 per person for the snack trays, but we’ll know more later about that possibility).

Most important, please let me know if you have suggestions or questions. And, any local Pirate who wants to help with this, he or she would be most welcome.

Before I forget (you know how that is), Happy Halloween and Happy Thanksgiving!

Fair Winds and Following Seas,

Carol (Lemon) Allen

AND, ONE OF MANY WISE COMMENTARIES FROM ANN (BAKER) AND DOUG MAC NEIL: God’s Plan for Aging

Most seniors never get enough exercise. In His wisdom God decreed that seniors become forgetful so they would have to search for their glasses, keys and other things thus doing more walking. And God looked down and saw that it was good.

Then God saw there was another need. In His wisdom He made seniors lose coordination so they would drop things requiring them to bend, reach & stretch. And God looked down and saw that it was good.

Then God considered the function of bladders and decided seniors would have additional calls of nature requiring more trips to the bathroom, thus providing more exercise.  God looked down and saw that it was good.

So if you find as you age, you are getting up and down more, remember it’s God’s will. It is all in your best interest even though you mutter under your breath.

Nine Important Facts To Remember As We Grow Older

#9  Death is the number 1 killer in the world.

#8  Life is sexually transmitted.

#7  Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

#6   Men have 2 motivations: hunger and hanky panky, and they can’t tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich.

#5  Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to use the Internet and they won’t bother you for weeks, months, maybe years.

#4  Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing.

#3  All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

#2  In the 60’s, people took LSD to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal.

#1  Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers. What you do today may be a burning issue tomorrow.

Please share this wisdom with others while I go to the bathroom.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass;

it’s learning to dance in the rain !
