Bass Tournaments

Looking Back And Looking Ahead

Compiled By Margie Anderson

Neal Burns and Hal Hensey took first place at the Mid-Week Bass tournament at Lake Pleasant July 18 with a five-fish limit weighing 11.06 pounds.  They used drop-shot rigs with prism shad, morning dawn, and green weenies on a point on the east side of the Agua Fria at 20 to 30 feet deep.  There was a nice little drop-off right in front of their spot.

The team of Matt Shura and Steve Foutch took first place honors at the JackAZ tournament at Bartlett on the night of July 21.  They weighed 14.62 pounds and took home $1,600.

On the night of Aug. 11 at Bartlett, Jensen and Chubbuck brought 12.51 pounds to the scales to win the JackAZ tournament and take home $1,675.

James Pacheco and Butch Nessline won the ABA Summer Night team tournament at Lake Pleasant on July 14.  Pacheco and Nessline weighed 17.27 pounds, cashing checks totaling $2,080.

John Osborn and Brian Severson won the ABA Summer Night team tournament at Lake Pleasant July 28.  Osborn and Severson weighed 16.25 pounds, including third-place Big Fish of 5.11, cashing checks totaling $1,680.

Scott Guetti and Jim Wood won the MBC Pleasant Summer Nights tournament on Aug. 18.  They weighed in 19.49 pounds for first place, and Wood also caught a 17.44 catfish for Goon Fish, so the pair received checks totaling $1,185.

Upcoming Tournaments For September

September is an “off” month for tournaments here in Arizona, generally speaking.  There will be championships and the occasional Open, but for the most part, the tournament year starts back up in October.  Night-fishing tournaments are generally finished up in August, so now is the time to go over your tackle and get your boat spiffed up for the new year.

  • The All Star Bass Team Championship will be at Lake Pleasant Sept. 7 and 8.
  • The All Star Bass Couples’ Championship will be at Roosevelt Lake Sept. 21 and 22.
  • The Best Bet Aluminum Boat Championship will be at Roosevelt Lake Sept. 14 and 15.
  • The National Bass West Havasu Classic is Sept. 28 and 29 at Lake Havasu.
  • Monterey Bass Team Championship is Sept. 26 and 27 at Roosevelt.
  • Monterey Bass Senior Team Championship is Sept.19 and 20 at Pleasant.
  • Monterey Bass Pro-Am Championship and Couples Championship are Sept. 12 and 13 at Pleasant.

Margie Anderson’s Note: Most of the 2007 – 2008 schedules posted online are still tentative because the permits haven’t been given out yet.  After the permits are final, we’ll list the schedules of the major Arizona bass tournament circuits for you.
