ARKANSAS HISTORY

In our issue featuring sternwheelers and other tour boats, we couldn't pass up the chance to show you Mary Woods 2, the coal-burning paddlewheeler that Dan Turner (of Sun Valley Fiberglas) said his grandfather Fred Bottom piloted between 1925 and 1933. Bottom brought the boat, which had been used for logging, from her dock in Drew, Miss., up the Mississippi River, to the Arkansas River, to White River, Ark. There, she saw service as a coal boat. Mary Woods 2 is now a museum on the White River in Jacksonport, Ark. -- five miles north of Newport, Ark.
