CMMA, NMMA Canada Announce Restructuring

CHICAGO — The Canadian Marine Manufacturers Association (CMMA) Board of Directors recently approved a reorganization plan being presented to members during the annual CMMA General Meeting on Jan. 14, 2008, in conjunction with the Toronto International Boat Show.

The plan calls for CMMA to combine its efforts and resources with the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Canada, with the intent of more effectively and efficiently addressing the growing needs of the Canadian recreational marine industry.

Subject to final approval at the January meeting, the plan would consolidate CMMA and its work in the areas of government relations, statistics, membership and communications with NMMA Canada, the Canadian shows division of NMMA, which is also home to the Discover Boating campaign.

Consolidation efforts would take place over the next 12 months, resulting in one association of Canadian marine manufacturers, which would operate under the existing NMMA Canada.

CMMA offices and staff would relocate from Oakville to Bolton, Ontario, joining the staff of NMMA Canada at its current headquarters. As a result of this restructuring, Sandy Currie has left CMMA and the position of executive director, which has been eliminated by the CMMA Board.

“We thank Sandy Currie for his years of service and contributions to the industry and wish him well in his future endeavors,” says Rick Layzell, CMMA chairman. “This restructuring recognizes the growing needs of the marine industry in Canada and refocuses us on the North American marine marketplace.”
