Captain’s Orders

MarineMax Captains Talk Boat Safety

National Boat Safety Week is May 19-25, and MarineMax, the nation’s largest recreational boat dealer, is working to get the word out. With boating season kicking into high gear across the country, MarineMax captains will be hitting the water and heading to studios to demonstrate and discuss safe-boating tips.

Come onboard, or we’ll come to your studio and provide an interview with a MarineMax captain (many of our captains work for the Coast Guard as well) to discuss these and other tips to ensure an accident-free, enjoyable boating experience:

  • Check the weather before you leave. We’ll tell you the best ways to check the weather and what sorts of weather you should avoid.
  • Check all safety equipment to ensure that it is onboard and functioning properly. Captains can provide a list of recommended safety equipment and even demonstrate how to operate the equipment.
  • Prepare a “float plan.” We’ll explain how to map out a float plan and how to best communicate your plans to others.
  • Know basic navigation rules and regulations. Captains can discuss common boating rules and rules specific to your audience boating area.

If you’d like to send a reporter and camera crew out to float with our captains, we’ll provide you a boat and arrange the details. We’d also be happy to arrange for an in-studio interview, if you’d prefer. Give us a call, and we’ll make it happen!
