Arizona Anglers Invited To Join In ‘Mako Madness’

The world's largest mako catch-and-release tournament is just over a month away, July 21 and 22.

Enjoy some spectacular mako fishing out of Dana Point Harbor . This is a two-day event with 100 percent cash back — no expenses deducted from any entry fee or jackpots. This event is sponsored by Finnseeker.

Since everyone was very pleased with the two divisions, one for released fish and the other for all makes over 100 pounds to qualify for the cash awards, including optional daily jackpots, it will remain the same for the 2007 event.

The tournament award categories include Most Released Fish prize of $ 3,000 and Big Fish category over the predetermined weight.

VooDoo Sportfishing out of San Diego will be sponsoring two teams: The Shake, Rattle and Troll Team on VooDoo with Darla McDowell, team captain, representing OceanGirl Custom Rods; John Nemire, Nemire Lures; Mike Watson, Mountain Pass Builders; Deb Wilkinson, WBT tournament manager; Ray Webb, Gaff Man; Kim Carter, Bill Luke Dodge, Bruce Biddick, Voodoo Sportfishing, and Don McDowell, Shake, Rattle & Troll radio at the helm.

The Mambo Team on Mambo will consist of Andy Harris, team captain from Larry Green Chevrolet; Ryan Luke, Bill Luke Dodge; Don McDowell Jr., SW Environmental Testing; Jeff Zeigner, SW Environmental Testing; Chris Watson Outlaw Custom Boats, and Jim Allen, Arizona Boating & Watersports, as crew.

Entry fee is $ 600 for each team with no angler restrictions before July 1 and $700 for late entry fee after this date. Last minute sign-ups and entries will be accepted Friday, July 20 until 6 p.m. when the captains' meeting takes place.
