The early morning chill — according to my truck, a brisk 44 degrees — and the threat of rain kept some Arizona Wakeboard Association riders away. However, the rain held off for another day, the wind calmed down, and the air warmed up to give 25 riders great water and outstanding wakes.

The event? “Freeze Your Fanny” on Jan. 26 at Lake Pleasant.

This unprecedented event brought together an unusual pairing of sponsors: Century Marine (Nautique Boats), Paradise Watersports (Malibu Boats), Liquid Force, CWB, Proline, Reef and Red Bull. In keeping with the theme, we decided to throw away the typical scoring system and award prizes for each division based on Best Style, Best Trick, and Best Dressed.
