HISTORY AT SEA -- Volunteers are needed to keep this World War II ship steaming. Year-round maintenance in all departments is required to continue her historic summer day cruises. SS Lane Victory, a 455-foot cargo ship and veteran of three wars, is supported by summer day cruises off Santa Catalina Island; they feature aerial dogfights (weather permitting). A great day for the whole family, the cruises include a continental breakfast, a hearty catered buffet lunch, underway engine-room tours, live music and two large museums. For more information about the supportive non-profit organization and the cruises, call (310) 519-9545 or visit www.lanevictory.org.
