Lake Mead Holds Safe Boating Day

Boating safety at Mead: That’s the focus on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hemenway Harbor, Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Sponsored by the Lake Mead Safe Boating Partnership, the event will feature many safety-related events, as well as great prizes.

Following is a list of some of the events scheduled for the day:

  • At-the-water training for PWCs
     
  • Vessel inspections
     
  • Houseboat safety
     
  • Boating safety
     
  • Trailering and launching demos
     
  • Free U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets (while supplies last and one per family, please)
     
  • Kayak and canoe safety demonstration

Visitors who bring their driver’s licenses, proof of successful completion of any National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and/or U.S. Coast Guard-approved boating-safety class, then take the at-the-water Safe Boating Day "mini-course" at this event, are eligible to win one of the following prizes:

  • Brand new 2006 4-stroke Sea-Doo GT
     
  • Family houseboat vacation
     
  • Colorado River raft trip
     
  • Colorado River kayak tour
