Bass Tournament Winners: Mid-April To Mid-May

WON Bass Team Tournaments

Colorado River Region:

John Turner and Jim Waits teamed up to catch 19.76 pounds and take home the first-place prize of $2,460 at the Colorado River WON Bass team tournament at Fishers Landing on April 22. Their catch included a 4.94-pounder.

WON Bass Lake Powell:

Bill Brown and Casey Kinsbury won the May 5 WON Bass Lake Powell team tournament held at Bullfrog Marina. They brought in five fish for 17.22 pounds, including a 5.38-pounder. Their win was worth $1,410.

On May 7 at Bullfrog Marina, George Banker and Johnny Parks weighed in five fish for 13.56 pounds to win the WON Bass Lake Powell Team tournament. Their sack included a 3.50-pounde, and their win netted them $955.

WON Bass Pro/AAA South Division: Brian Nollar of Homer, Alaska, won the WON Bass Pro-Am at Lake Pleasant held April 8-9. Nollar weighed in a two-day total of 32.83 pounds, including a 4.16-pounder, and earned $26,300 for his efforts.

National Bass West

Colorado River Region Team Tournaments

L. Gerdes and M. Estes took home $1,216 for winning the National Bass West team tournament held at Lake Havasu on April 29. The pair weighed in five fish for 18.23 pounds, including a 4.73-pounder.

Anglers’ Choice

Colorado River Region (teams)

Nick Kristich and Eric Kunkle won the April 15 Anglers’ Choice tournament at Lake Mead. They weighed in 14.73 pounds for five fish, earning $4,165. Their big fish was 3.91 pounds.

At Lake Mohave on April 29, Roger Neukam and Marc Knudsen weighed five fish for 20.87 pounds to take first place and win $2,945.

Southwest Pro-Am

Mike Goodwin weighed in a two-day total of 30.63 pounds to win the Anglers’ Choice Pro-Am at Lake Havasu held April 21-22. Goodwin won $36,500 for his efforts.

Southern Colorado River Region (teams)

Chad and Kristina Hurst brought 17.97 pounds to the scale at Lake Havasu on May 6 to win the Anglers’ Choice tournament. Their five-fish limit included a 4.27-pounder, and their win was worth $2,120

FLW Stren Series

Western Division (pro-ams)

Jimmy Reese won the Western Division closer at the California Delta May 3 with a two-day winning weight of 39-1. He earned some $20,000 in cash and contingencies plus a Ranger boat. Reese’s winning baits included a crawdad-orange Rat-L-Trap and a Maragarita Mutilator Roboworm. He finished off the day with a borrowed swimbait (a custom 7-inch wooden bait). _____________________________________________________________________________

All Star and Best Bet Tournaments

Couples: Mark and Johnna Kile won the April 29 All Star Couple’s tournament at Roosevelt Lake with 16.18 pounds. They shared $2,400 for their win.

Teams: Buddy Randall of Pine and Mark Kile of Payson won the All Star Bass Team tournament at Roosevelt on May 6. They weighed a 21.07-pound limit that included a 5.12-pounder and took home $4,450. They fished Carolina rigs, drop-shots, and Texas-rigged plastics along with a variety of topwater baits to catch their limit in the Tonto end of the lake.

Best Bet (aluminum boats): Richard Johnson of Mesa and Jeff Pfundheller of Phoenix weighed a six-bass limit totaling 15.21 pounds to win the Best Bet Team tournament at Lake Pleasant on April 22. They fished spinnerbaits and jigs on main lake points and their limit included a 3.37-pounder.

Ken Smith and Dale Doolittle put together an awesome sack at Pleasant on May 13 to win the Best Bet tournament. Their sack was over 17 pounds, and they had a 7-pound kicker. This was their first Best Bet win and they shared the $3,900 first prize.

Arizona Bass Fishing Tournaments

Matt Shura and Mark Debrito teamed up for the May 13 ABF at Alamo and weighed in a whopping 20.54 pounds, including a 4.66 kicker. They fished a combination of things, including spinnerbaits and jerkbaits, but most of their fish came flippin and pitchin in the brush. They shared $5,692 for their win.

American Bass (ABA)

Southern Division, Central Arizona Region teams

Dallas Scott Sr. and Dallas Scott Jr. won the ABA tournament at Alamo Lake on April 29. Their 16.62-pound winning sack included a 3.81-pounder and they took home $1500.

Lake Powell

The father/son team of Ron Colby and Sheridan Colby brought 14.09 pounds to the scale for the win at Lake Powell on April 22. They won $988.

Monterey Bass

MBC PRO-AM Tournaments

Pro Larry Landgren and Am Bruce Rains won the MBC Pro-Am at Lake Pleasant on April 15. They brought in a total weight of 15.61 pounds, netting Landgren $954. Rains’ winnings were $606.

Joe Michels and Jon Ragsdale teamed up for a five-fish limit of 17.02 lbs to win the MBC Pro-Am tournament at Alamo on May 6. They took home a combined total of $2,192. Michels had the Pro Big Bass of 4.44 lbs while Terry Johnson had a 4.10 pounder for the AM 2nd Big Bass of the tournament.

MBC Couples

Richard and Josephine Rojas brought a five-fish limit to the scales for 12.62 pounds to win the MBC Couple’s tournament at Pleasant on April 15. The pair took home $828.

Richard and Mary Hubenthal bagged a limit at Alamo on May 6 to win the MBC Couple’s tournament. Their fish totaled 11.43 pounds including a 3.30-pounder. They won $528.

Mid-Week (Fishing Wednesday, not Saturday)

The April 19 Lake Pleasant Midweek Bass Anglers monthly club tournament was won by the team of Steve Plimley and Bruce Nelson. The pair brought 10.45 pounds to the scales, and Plimley had the Big Fish with a 6.80 pound bass. Their best lure was a six-inch brown lizard fished on the lee side of main lake islands.
