Updated Regs For Glen Canyon NRA

Posted On Internet

AZBW NEWS SERVICE — The 2006 Superintendent’s Compendium, which contains updated regulations for the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Rainbow Bridge National Monument, is available on the Internet.

The compendium includes information on designations, closures, permit requirements, and restrictions — including those on mooring and operating boats and personal watercraft within the boundaries of both park areas.

The National Park Service said in a release that the 2006 compendium does not contain any changes to existing park regulations.

It does maintain the prohibition on cliff jumping or cliff diving within the Glen Canyon NRA including Lake Powell and its tributaries, which was established in May of 2005.

It also continues the requirement that visitors camping on the shores of Lake Powell or the San Juan, Dirty Devil or Colorado rivers use a self-contained toilet designated to dispose of human waste.

The compendium, which is updated annually, is posted under "Management Docs" on the Glen Canyon NRA Web site at www.nps.gov/glca.
