By Carol L. Allen First there were eight. Last year there
were about three hundred. Who knows how many will participate this
year.
According to Eric Church, operations manager at Bartlett Lake,
this year’s Day on the Lake June 2 and 3 is expected to be even more
successful than ever.
For 10 years now, in conjunction with St. Joseph’s hospital, the
folks at Bartlett have helped with a meaningful event for the
physically challenged. And, not just locally.
Many attend from other states; some even plan their vacations
around the event. The special gathering offers those with
disabilities the chance to enjoy the water in many ways: water
skiing, boat rides, fishing, tubing, and more.
And, Church spends most of his time those days at the barbecue,
preparing hamburgers, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and all the fixin’s
for both participants and volunteers.
Yes, for volunteers too, and there are many.
In addition to personnel from St. Joseph Hospital and from
Bartlett Lake, many boat dealers and private individuals donate
their time, watercraft, expertise, and equipment for Day on the
Lake.
Volunteers are always welcome, and anyone interested in helping
out with this significant annual event may call Church at (602)
