One Boater Still Missing, Presumed Dead

As of June 6, Heather Storck was still in critical condition, and Janelle Smith was in fair condition – both in Las Vegas hospitals.

The two were the most seriously injured Arizonans in the crash July 3 on the Colorado River, just north of Lake Havasu.

Still missing and presumed dead is David Ramsey Sr., 54, of Riverside, Calif.

Ten Arizona teachers were thrown overboard at the collision of the two boats, one driven by Shetal Walters, owner of Desert Garden Montessori School, Ahwatukee Foothills, and the other by David Ramsey, Jr., son of the missing boater.

Preliminary investigation by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office indicates that speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors.

Walters annually hosts a teachers’ retreat at her Lake Havasu City vacation home.

There were 15 on board her performance boat at the time of the accident.
