Arizona State Parks Serves Up Holiday Wonders

Dec. 12 — Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park
6 – 8 p.m. Luminarias or firolitos are bags of sand with a lit candle set on the walls of the courthouse in honor of the Mexican tradition of the posada. Free to the public, help ring in the holidays with festive Victorian era music, finger food and beverages at the courthouse. (520) 457-3311 Dec. 13 — Riordan Mansion State Historic Park
The community is invited to attend our annual Holiday Party, which will be held in the Visitor Center. From 9 – 11 a.m. Santa will be on hand to give out candy, and Mrs. Claus will read Christmas stories to the children. In addition, there will be crafts for the children to make and take home, as well as Christmas music and general good cheer. To help fend off the cold, hot cider and cake will be served. Free. See the Mansion decorated for the holidays. (928) 779-4395 Dec. 13 — Oracle State Park - Holiday Wreath-Making Workshop 1-4 p.m. Hone your botanical knowledge and make a decorative wreath using natural plant material gathered at the park. Meet at the Kannally Ranch House. Cost of the workshop is $12 including the park entrance fee. Space is limited; reservation required. (520) 896-2425. Dec. 13 — Fort Verde State Historic Park
On Dec. 13th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will a Christmas decoration crafting session plus a wreath-making workshop (additional fee). Enjoy volunteer re-enactors dressed in Victorian clothes. Also, the town of Camp Verde will be hosting a Christmas parade starting at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 to Jan. 3, 2009 — Fort Verde State Historic Park
Living history presentations, weapons demonstrations and portrayal of life on the frontier as it was in the late 1870s festively decorated for the holidays. This a unique time to see the park and an enjoyable family activity. (928) 567-3275. Dec. 19 & 20 — Fort Verde State Historic Park
Celebrate the holidays with a unique candlelight tour of Fort Verde. Stop by from 6 to 8 p.m. to enjoy a tour, caroling, cider and cookies, plus re-enactors in period clothing. A festive event.
