Pocket Cruisers Coming To Lake Havasu

Great Event & Great Ocean Going Boats

Havasu Pocket Cruisers are coming Feb 11th through 15th, 2010

Feb 11th thru the 15th will see over 60 “Pocket Cruiser” type sailboats and their crews converge on Lake Havasu City from 7 Western States. This will be the third running of the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Get-Together and Poker Run and the largest to date. This year the event will be hosted at the London Bridge Resort. Friday, Feb 12th , there will be an “In The Water Boat Show And Shine”. All the participants will have their boats tied up to the London Bridge Resort’s docks and the public is invited to come on down, take a look and meet the crews.

What exactly is a “Pocket Cruiser“? A Pocket Cruiser is a small but very capable trailer-able sailboat. These boats range in length from about 14ft to 26 ft. They all have a cabin which provides shelter for the crew ranging anywhere from very primitive “camping” type accommodations to fairly roomy and comfortable, depending on the size, boat, and owners preference. The ability to be put on a trailer and towed down the highway by the owner opens up endless possibilities for cruising grounds to explore. That is the big draw for these little boats. The boats are designed to be very seaworthy and are capable, in the right hands, of fairly extensive coastal and open ocean passages. As an example, every year members of this group sail to the Channel Islands, around 12 miles offshore of the Ventura, CA area and even to Catalina Island which is approximately 26 miles offshore of Long Beach, CA. They also routinely partake in long distance multi-day cruises sometimes lasting multiple weeks and covering hundreds of miles. For the entire duration of the cruise, the diminutive Pocket Cruiser will carry everything the occupants will need for the exploration.

Anyone interested in getting involved in sailing is invited to come down and attend as much or as little of the event as they like. There is no entry fee for the public OR the participants. These sailors love to talk sailboats, answer questions, and show-off their boats. The group encompasses everyone from blue collar workers to corporate executives, all brought together by the common interest of sailing the Pocket Cruiser. You won’t be able to tell one from another at the docks, they’re all just sailing buddies.
