The 2010 San Diego Bayfair Storm is an Offshore Power Boating Event taking place in conjunction with the San Diego BAYFAIR on Mission Bay. This event is designed to bring performance boat poker run teams from all over the country to enhance San Diego BAYFAIR.

We at LakeRacer want to provide a unique offshore boating experience for the teams by including them in all the fantastic racing activities the San Diego BAYFAIR is famous for! And providing the exciting experience of a spectacular fun run through San Diego Harbor event and a 100-mile ocean-going poker run to beautiful Oceanside Calif. In Oceanside, we plan a great afternoon on the beach and the chance for each team to give rides to our service men and women from Camp Pendleton right next door.

Monster Bash Poker Run — Nov. 5 –6, Lake Havasu’s Nautical Resort

In 2009 LakeRacer took us back to the early days of Arizona Hot Boats and the Fall Heatwave series poker runs by hosting the Monster Bash Poker Run. It was back to a little smaller and easier-going event with a fun theme and costumes encouraged.

As it was late in the season, only 50 boats signed up, but what a great time we had! Everyone who came swore they were coming back and many more who didn't make it declared they weren't missing the 2010 event. So, welcome to the 2010 Monster Bash Poker Run on Nov. 5 and 6. As last year, we're supporting the Lake Havasu Food Bank, as our designated charity, so a percentage of the poker run jackpot will be donated, and you are encouraged to make any other donations of non-perishable food at the event.

This event is limited in number and size of boats. It is for boats 35 feet and under, with a special invitation to larger boats that have provided special support to our events. We want to encourage those who feel the Desert Storm event no longer accommodates their boat.

The Nautical Resort and Teague Custom Marine have encouraged us to organize this event with their sponsorships, so make sure to thank them.

This poker run is themed for Halloween to make it fun for the whole family. Included in this event is an opportunity for a holiday photo of each boat in front of the London Bridge. These will be included on an event photo CD to be mailed out after the event.

We will host a reception and registration party Friday night in the Turtle Grill or Nautical Cove and an awards costume party Saturday night in the Nautical Conference Center. By special request, we will bring back the Friday Lunch Run to Havasu Springs, but it is reserved only for those who register before Oct.15. (They will receive a special wristband in the mail for the special event.)

Depending on our permit request to BLM, we may even host a Friday morning shootout for some of our guys who couldn't do the Desert Storm version.

Online registration is at www.shop.lakeracerllc.com/category.sc?categoryId=9 and more information is available at www.lakeracerllc.com/

2011 Desert Storm Poker Run — April 27-30, 2011

Next year, the 2011 Desert Storm Poker Run will be pushed back a week due to Easter’s falling so late in the spring. We plan on starting off the long weekend with charity rides on Wednesday, continuing the all-day Main Street Boat Show and Party on Thursday, the Poker Run on Friday, and the Shootout on Saturday. We have some early indications of the BLM in Lake Havasu’s imposing new fees on events such as $150 per day, still-photo fee plus $250 per day fee for video productions.

We've also heard they will place a per-head count fee on the events of $5 to $25 per person. Of course, these fees will have a major impact on our event along with others, with the down side being that I don't see any real benefits from these fees as are provided by Fish and Game or the sheriff officers.

Due to issues like these, new restrictions on the lake and others, plus the need for additional navigational buoys in the river mouth, we have been working with the Lake Havasu Marine Association to form a new Performance Club of boaters who are concerned with keeping our type of activities coming to Havasu.

Please contact Jim Salscheider at jims@lhcma.com if you’re interested in joining.

Also, POPRA has moved their race to a March weekend to join with the Lake Havasu Boat Show, so Sunday of the Desert Storm weekend may be a relaxed play day for all involved.

But, you never know, so keep in touch at www.lakeracerllc.com for updates.

Take care, have a great summer and I hope to see you on the water For more information, contact Jim Nichols: (602) 578-5975, jimn@lakeracerllc.com
