Leukemia Cup Regatta Is Number 11 - Mark your calendars: It’s just around the corner — Arizona Yacht Club’s 50th Birthday Regatta and the 11th Leukemia Cup, Jan. 15-17, 2010.

Last year AYC raised $78,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It will be exciting to see what can be raised in 2010 in honor of the AYC's 50th Birthday.

Gary Jobson, national chair of the Leukemia Cup Regatta, lymphoma survivor and celebrity sailor, will be there to celebrate with the Arizona sailors and guests.

Fall brings pumpkins, weekend races, family gatherings — and fundraising! Several AYCers have already begun to collect donations and approach corporate sponsors. Friends and family who support sailing can make donations in the name of an AYC sailor.

Donations are tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Donations can be mailed to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3877 N 7th St., Ste 300, Phoenix, AZ 85014. When mailing, please make sure to include the sailor's name so the donation is credited to the correct place. (There are prizes for the sailor who raises $8,500 or more.)

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.

There are nearly one million Americans living with a blood cancer as you read this — and another 2,530 people in ARIZONA will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in 2010.

LLS and the Arizona Yacht Club team up each year for the Birthday Regatta where sailors fundraise to win prizes and make an impact. Last year, AYC raised $78,000 and this year hope to raise even more. Those dollars contributed to —
• $107,000 in Patient Financial Aid
• Seven Family Support Groups in Arizona
• Reached over 200 pediatric health care professionals through our Welcome Back to School Program for children with cancer

• Provided patient education programs to over 250 underserved individuals.

For more information on the Society and/or the event, contact Cameron Childs at (602) 567-7605 or by e-mail at cameron.childs@lls.org.
